On Marathon Training – Time to Taper!

Sunday marks two weeks until the big day–Marathon Day! Last weekend I ran my longest run of marathon training, my second 20-miler! I decided to run two 20s this time, just because I felt like it would prepare my legs a little bit better. Both of them went well, and I managed to stay at goal pace, under 11 minute mile. My training for this marathon was a bit different than my past training plans. I followed a plan loosely. I didn’t stick to it religiously. I ran about three times a week, with long runs on the weekend and and during the week I did yoga or piyo for…

    Weekend Happenings

Friday night: Friday was pretty low key! I made some home made pizza for Chris and myself, complete with some cheese from the Cheese Traveler. It was DELICIOUS and one of the best pizzas I’ve made so far! The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the fake sausage–the lightlife brand. It didn’t even taste like sausage–just like fake meat product. At least it added a bit of a protein, but the rest of the pizza was really good. The cheese we used was mostly mozzarella but also some slices of Havarti from Demark. Chris went to the Cheese Traveler to pick up some. It was pretty fantastic on…

Marathon Training: What I’ve Been Eating

To be honest, I wasn’t sure how well I’d be eating during marathon training. In an ideal world, I’d be eating clean most of the time…but we all know I have a thing for sweets. Thankfully I haven’t gone completely overboard with the bad food and the mentality of “I’m running so much I can eat whatever I want!” I have been eating pretty healthy during the week with some chocolate thrown in for some good measure. post 19-miler pumpkin froyo for the win Pre-Run I try to eat a healthy dinner the night before my long runs. For example, Friday night I ate roasted potatoes from our CSA, some…

    Prepping for a Long Run

Yesterday marked my longest and best run of marathon training! After last Saturday’s half marathon, I was feeling a bit defeated. My legs were hurting around mile 8 and I didn’t know how I was ever going to run 17 miles the following weekend. I ended up getting a cold on Wednesday, so I knew I had to rest some to get my energy back up for Saturday’s run. I ended up skipping Thursday’s run to get more rest. Friday night rolled around and I spent it relaxing. I did some knitting, lit some candles, and watched a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother (my latest addiction on…
