Dinner at New World Bistro
Friday marked four years from when Chris and I went out on our first date! We decided to celebrate with dinner at one of our favorites, New World Bistro Bar on Delaware Avenue. You must order a bottle of wine when celebrating something, no? For an appetizer I got the street-style calamari, and let me tell you it was one of the best I’ve tried! The sauce was amazing. For dinner I went with the jerk chicken meal, since its supposed to be one of their best dishes. The seasonings on the kale and beans were a little bit too spicy for me, but the chicken was delicious! I…

Troy Night Out and the Confectionery
Last Friday at the beginning of the long weekend, I met a few friends for a night out in Troy. We walked around the tight knit market, looking at all the awesome crafts and enjoying the atmosphere. Troy just keeps getting better and better. There are numerous new shops and restaurants that have opened since I lived there! Although I do have to admit, some of the stores are a bit strange. (like the one above, which featured a ton of weird, vintage things…) Next up was dinner and drinks at the Confectionery, a wine bar that has become one of the coolest spots in Troy. With a brand new…

Hiking My First High Peaks – Cascade and Porter Mountains
Friday night after work I drove up to the Lake Placid area to meet Chris and his cousins. They had been backpacking in the Adirondacks since Monday and were done—they were already settled into a KOA Campground in Wilmington, and I was meeting them up there for some camping! First, I met them at Lake Placid Pub and Brewery for dinner, after driving 2+ hours a beer was much needed! For dinner I ordered the maple and pear flatbread. The flavors were great but this flatbread was way overdone. Should have been taken out of the oven way earlier, I think I cut my mouth on the crispy edges about…

I was just going to run for an hour,…

How to Have an Awesome ADK Weekend
Step 1. Go Hiking I wasn’t scheduled to meet my friends for our cabin weekend until late on Friday night. I wanted to take advantage of every second in the ADK this weekend so I met up with my new friend Christine for a hike! We met in Warrensburg and drove together to the trailhead of Crane Mountain. The trailhead is located in Johnsburgh, about 20 minutes from Warrensburg. Following directions in my Adirondack Mountain Club trail guidebook, we easily found it. We had to park about .25 miles from the actual register (start of the hike) because it looked like only an SUV or truck could get through some…
