Squirrelly Six Mile Trail Race – 10.31.20
I mentioned in a previous post that I signed up for a 6 mile trail race on Halloween. The Squirrelly Six/Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon at Thacher State Park is my favorite local race event! I first ran the 6 mile race 10 years ago! I can’t believe it had been that long since I last ran it. But last weekend on Halloween morning, a few friends and I participated in this fun race! The Albany Running Exchange did an excellent job organizing this event despite COVID restrictions. The start was staggered with social distancing protocols in place. Everyone had on masks (Halloween masks too!) so I felt very safe! It was…

Fat Tire Bike Race at Gurney Lane
Last month, Gurney Lane held the first ever Fat Tire Bike Race. Gurney Lane is a popular trail system for mountain bikers in the area. We ride there a lot in the summer, as it’s a park that offers a variety of beginner/intermediate mountain bike trails. This winter, the Queensbury Parks and Recreation raised money for a groomer so the trails can be maintained and accessible to fat bikers in the winter. Cath and I decided to participate in the first ever Fat Tire Bike Race held at Gurney. The race had two variations, a 5 mile loop and a longer 10 mile version. Cath and I both rode the 5 mile…

Ragnar Trail Relay VT – Mt Ascutney
The first weekend in August I participated in my second Ragnar Trail–in Vermont! My friend Margaret captained our team “Peer Pressure Heads for the Hills” for a run-through-the-night trail relay in the mountains of Vermont. Three of us drove up from Albany on Thursday evening, camped out and awaited our team to arrive on Friday morning. Since I was Runner #1, I started things off at 9am on Friday. My first loop was “Green”, AKA the easy loop. But there wasn’t anything easy about it. It had just started raining, the trails were getting slick, and the first half of the 3ish-mile leg was up a mountain. Green LoopDistance…

2017 Senenca 7 Relay
Every year since 2015 I’ve run the Seneca 7 Relay! It is a 77.7 relay race around Seneca Lake starting and ending in Geneva, NY. I love it because of the gorgeous scenery and the fact that our team can spend the previous day wine tasting great Finger Lakes wine! We rented the same house in Geneva we had last year, which is perfect because it is only a few minutes from the starting line of the race! On Sunday April 30, we got up super early for our 6:30am start time. It was a lot colder than we wanted, but at least it wasn’t raining! We all ordered matching…

2016 Troy Turkey Trot 10K
It’s somewhat of a tradition for my friends and I to run the Troy Turkey Trot 10K on Thanksgiving morning. You may have noticed I haven’t been running much lately! I’ve had a reoccurring hip issue for the past few months. I took the entire month of October off from running and skipped two half marathons I was signed up for, hoping that it would get better. On Halloween I ran for the first time in a month, with short runs here and there after that, nothing over four miles. I had thought my hip was healed! At about mile 5 of the Turkey Trot, my hip started aching (not enough to…
