    Pub Run at Wolff’s Biergarten

Last night was the first of Fleet Feet’s pub run series! We met at Wolff’s Biergarten in downtown Albany for a four mile run from Broadway up to Lark, down Madison Avenue and back down to Wollf’s. When I got there, a rep from On Swiss Performance Running Shoes told me I could demo some running shoes in exchange for a free beer after the run. Sign me up! I got to demo the Cloudflier, a lightweight stability shoe with some cushioning. I loved the colors and the reflective stripes on them! The were also nice and wide in the toe box, which made them very comfy. However, by the…

New Years Fun and the Hangover Half Marathon

Happy new year! I can’t believe it’s 2016 already. Where does the time go? My good friend Jackie and her husband Brian came up to visit from NJ on Thursday for New Years. Jordan and I brought them to Thacher so Brian could try fat biking with Jordan. It finally snowed and the trails were covered in snow/ice! Jackie and I just walked to the hang glider cliff while the guys rode the mountain bikes. It was really quiet there with not many people on the trail. We only saw one other guy trail running. We chatted with him for a little bit when we stopped at the lookout, but…

    Mountain Biking at Thacher Park

Thacher Park is one of my favorite local spots for outdoor activities. I hike, snowshoe, ride my road bike to the lookout and run many a trail race there. But last weekend was the first time I went mountain biking there. We start at the Carrick Road parking lot at the Northern end of the park. We rode all the way to main entrance to the park and back, which totaled about 10 miles. 10 miles seems like nothing on a bike, but I’ll assure you that mountain biking 10 miles is a lot harder than road biking 10 miles. I had to get off a few times to walk…

    2015 Troy Turkey Trot 10K

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! This year, I made a pie for my family’s Thanksgiving get-together. It was a maple-pumpkin with a streusel topping and it came out fantastic! It was my first time making a pumpkin pie and I’ll definitely keep this recipe around for next year. Before festivities began, I got up early to get ready for the Turkey Trot 10K! Since I’m living in Troy again, it was a must-do! For my warm up, I ran to the start where I waited to run into friends. After wandering around for about 15 minutes, I got in the 10 minute mile corral and  finally spotted Kathleen.…

Mountain Biking at the Mohonk Preserve

Last week Jordan and I had a rare day off–so we decided to go down to New Paltz to mountain bike at the Mohonk Preserve. The park borders Minnewaksa, where I ran the half marathon last weekend. Mountain biking is only permitted on the carriage trails, and paying the $17 biking fee for a day pass gets you access to the trails at Mohonk as well as Minnewaska! We got there too late in the day to check out all the trails, but we did ride on the main carriage trail along the ledge. It was gorgeous! Also, we saw many people rock climbing ! Pretty cool, but not something…
