    Thacher Park Running Festival 10K

Saturday marked the 100 year celebration of John Boyd Thacher State Park. Ever since I was a little kid I have been coming here to walk the Indian Ladder Trail, and it’s still one of my favorite places to get outside in the Capital Region. I love going to Thacher for nature walks, trail running, fun trail racing, and even snowshoeing. With one of the best views in the area, this place can’t be beat. This is why I ran the 10K on Saturday. As part of the Centennial Celebration, the Albany Running Exchange put on some trail races: a 5K, a 10K, and even a marathon and a 50K!…

    Favorite Places to Snowshoe

Oh look, another 3-5 inches in the forecast! Hurray! (Note the half-sarcasm there.) So I’ve told you how I stay warm while snowshoeing, but I haven’t really put together a short list of places I’ve been going to snowshoe. Here are my favorite places so far! Five Rivers Environmental Center in Delmar, NY I grew up coming to Five Rivers every summer when I was a kid. (And I trail run here a lot in the summer) However, only this Winter have I ever taken advantage of the trails during this season. They are gorgeous and there are many trails to choose from! And Five Rivers is only a short…

    Winter Wonderland

Since my resolve to stop hating on winter, I’ve made sure to take advantage of this long, long season by enjoying the outdoors! I got two more snowshoeing adventures in this weekend! I skipped my long run in favor of two short snowshoe treks, the first of which was in the Albany Pine Bush! I drove to the trailhead for Blueberry Hill East Loops, located off of Washington Ave Extension in Albany, grabbed a trail map and set off. I hiked the red and yellow trail loops for a total of 2.5 miles. It was short, but felt like I went a lot further! I have never been to this…

Mohawk Hudson River Half Marathon 2013

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a race. The weather was perfect and I got to sleep in my own bed the night before. Pretty nice. I haven’t ran a big local race in awhile so it was fun to do it again Chris dropped me off at the start at a little before 8 am and then we said goodbye. He had to go to the airport to fly out for a job interview…good luck Chris!! Anyway, after chatting for a bit with Keri, one of my fellow Ragnar turtles, we were off. We both were representing Ragnar! I started running at a pretty easy pace since the beginning…

    Last Summer Trail Run

Last night I participated in the last summer trail run with ARE, for me! The final run of the series is actually next Thursday, but my classes start next week so I can’t make it. I decided to go after discovering that it was going to be in Guilderland near where I live on some trails I’d never been on before. The run was hard last night. The trails had a lot of ups and downs and they essentially felt like a maze in the woods. If it wasn’t for the marked path then I would have definitely gotten lost in here. I was not having a good run. My…
